I am a huge fan of Krispy Kreme Donuts…. I think they are little pieces of heaven.Unfortunately, Krispy Kreme isn't in Singapore, so to satisfy my occassional craving, I have been working on a donut recipe….I wanted something different. I wanted a little asian twist to it…give it a little something extra.

I have come up with these little babies…it has a matcha glaze to it, and I must say they are pretty good!

old school May. 15th, 2008 @ 06:39 pm
[info]taren_
Old school goodtimes ahead:

I'm currently enjoying old IIDX games. I played 8th yesterday, and today was 7th. I'm getting my kicks in before GOLD comes out. Having to use the towel for EVERYTHING sucks balls, but I was getting +100 EX on everything, seriously. I allllmost managed to score the special Extra stage, but I could only get 86.9% on ATHR[a]. You have to AAA a 7+ on Another with Hard, right?

Also, this one's primarily for [info]rmz: how come I only got an A for overall? That score is just shy of AAA territory. What the shit. Is it because you could still only get AA/AAA through expert mode in 7th Style? Nevertheless, it's still amusing as all hell to go AAA-AAA-AA-AA and get a total result of "A". Haha.

Now here's a twist: I went bowling today. I haven't bowled in nine months, holy crap. And what's the first thing I do? Clean game, followed by a near-perfect game. Front five, pulled it, ten-pin, back five. Shee-yit. My arm is really sore now, owie.

The scores are: 217-254-158-222-224. Average: 215. And if you take my three highest of the five, I bowled a 700! Okay okay it doesn't really count. But not bad for being out of practice, huh?! The middle game was because I was getting tired and the line was wearing out, and I left four nasty splits.

When I got there, there was a father and his two kids two lanes over. He was really coaching them kids good. Not really. It was quite obnoxious. I wasn't really listening but it sounded like he was using the "living legacy" maneuver. I'm sure I was pissing him off good (see also: my kids are never gonna be that good at this rate, dammit). Surprised he didn't do the "hey watch him" trick or the "can my kids watch you" technique. Would have made my day, oh well.

They even had a 99-cent special going on. What luck! I didn't have to use my coupon. Speaking of coupons, Brunswick Zone used to do this thing where if you signed up for their email fliers, they'd send you a coupon for a free hour of bowling. Afterwards, they'd send out coupons for 99-cent bowling every few weeks. Then it became 1.99/game coupons. And lately they started doing this two-for-one baloney.

My theory: sign up again using a bogus address, and get another freebie coupon. To my surprise, I received the email with a two-for-one coupon instead! Talk about cutting back on your promotions. Pretty lame. At least I got a sweet deal there anyway. Sure makes up for how much I blew filling up my car, haha.

In other news, my eye is really bothering me. I think it's fatigue- whenever my eye gets tired, especially at night or in dim lighting, everything appears just a teeny bit fuzzy unless I squint. It's really bad because my other eye is 20/15 or so. But in the morning or in bright light it's fine. Any advice?

California Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban May. 15th, 2008 @ 01:49 pm

I like what Mayor Newsom said "It's about human dignity. It's about civil rights. It's about time."

SAN FRANCISCO — Gay and lesbian couples in San Francisco rejoiced Thursday over a California Supreme Court decision affirming their right to marry even as political leaders on both sides of the issue girded for an extended fight in the courts and at the ballot box.

“It’s just amazing to feel like I am a full citizen — I am not a second-class citizen,” said Christmas Laubrile, a nurse, who was with her partner, Alice Heimsoth. “I don’t have to sit in the back of the bus, and I don’t have to take second best.”

Decisions have consequences.
A right decision made might be seen as a wrong decision by someone else.
A wrong decision made NOW may just turn out to be right in future for the person who made it, ditto otherwise.
And as much as we all hate other people from speculating-and-then-loudly-talking-about-it-behind-our-backs-until-someone-else-hears-it, it will happen anyway because I guess that's what some people just like to do when they get together.

If you know me well enough, do you think you should try to pscyho-analyse me for what I've done behind my back? I'm not a kid anymore, I have my own thoughts, my own views, my own needs, my own concerns - call it flawed, defined by whatever standards you wish... but not by my own. Decisions, if sincerely made, should be respected. Nothing more.

I shall now go back to living life like this...
I really am... a happy-go-lucky person...
most of the time pretty oblivious to whatever's really happening around me..
but that's me yeah!

I voted for PAP in 2006 elections: WP candidate May. 16th, 2008 @ 01:00 am
[info]hahabird, posting in [info]sg_ljers
Taken off the Straits Times:

"How should an opposition leader vote in a general election (GE), especially one who is contesting the polls?

For Workers' Party leader (Yaw Shin Leong), he voted for the ruling People's Action Party candidate in the 2006 GE - and has now found himself in the eye of an online storm.

Mr Yaw, a Bukit Panjang resident, had revealed in his blog that he voted for the PAP's Teo Ho Pin who was contesting the single-member ward against Singapore Democratic Party chairman and former opposition MP Ling How Doong.

The disclosure was just a one-liner: - Teo Ho Pin (MP) - Good MP. I voted for him in GE06."

Frankly I don't see the problem in voting for the PAP in a ward that your party isn't contesting in, and against a party that you don't belong to. The Opposition parties did agree not to contest each other's wards, but it was simply an obligation to vote for anyone BUT a PAP candidate, not a stipulation or inked agreement between the Opposition parties.

I mean seriously, what's the deal and why is everyone so pissed off? It's not as if he exercised his position to influence multiple votes; it appears to be a rather personal decision. You could argue on the basis of principle, but that would simply paint him as an irrational person.

For the record, I voted Opposition the last time I had a chance to. And it's a pretty shitty headline - technically it's the truth, but with a sentence like that the editor's sensationalized it to the point where perceptions are negatively enhanced. OMG TRAITORZ

At least it proves one thing - the fact that people are miffed about this "betrayal" underlines how much the ruling party is not thought of kindly. Thank God we've still got at least that.

Finally, the first official training after one whole month of examination break ! This was also the first training where the new comm starts their take-over transition. Nono-chan could use more fierceness but I'm sure he'll pick it up from Taisho soon. The juniors and the new comm members are promising and it makes me happy. ^^

Training was super shag today although we didn't do THAT much. It's like having to rev up the engine to overcome the inertia part which is more energy demanding than keeping the engine running at 120kmph. I could at least dish out a bit of explosive energy on Monday's mini-practice because I had a super late lunch and we were practicing next to an air-conditioned room, but today was just different.

I nearly lost my voice initially. I really have to start figuring out what is making me nearly-lose my voice in the middle of training once in a while. And then I saw all those tired faces behind the men-gane ... so I took a deep breath and squeeze out as booming a voice as I could and then my vocal cord somehow picked up the pace again and lasted the rest of the evening. But for now ... someone please pass me the Pi-Pa Gao.

*_*

Well, towards the middle of training Peter Sensei came by(!) and made us do mawari-keiko and something something kakari keiko (as in the one where they predesignate the moves, the name is not anywhere near the top of my head atm) ! I do remember the last time my arms felt this heavy and my legs felt this jellyish - 4 years ago, when I was a freshman, standing in stance for about an hour during Kato Sensei's class.

Still, like Peter Sensei said, the reason why we sonkyo in a circle today is "we suffered together". Haha, it's super tiring for us today but I'm quite sure it's not true kendo suffering yet !

The best part is that Taisho, who was driving home after training, cut infront of the bus that the whole lot of us were chasing after, and then gave the acclerator some slack. The bus driver honked at him angrily, but of course, him being our cool Taisho, probably didn't give a hoot about it. (Or maybe he was blasting anime songs so loudly that he couldn't really hear it anyway) *grin* We dashed with whatever strength our bodies contained, all carrying our gears and what not, and managed to catch our bus. And after we boarded and managed to recover the strength to speak we laughed. We love you Taisho, you're the best ! ♥

It's good to be back in action. Although I feel like there's no more strength left in my arms.

[info]tckl
Reached home today rather confident that i won't need to do night duty tonight cos last night was so quiet.

Boss told me she will call me to inform me.

Regardless, i did not want to sleep too much so that tonight i can sleep better.

Got home, slept 3 hours and woke up for a really draining tanning session. Then boss texted, tonight still got to go work. But she said i can report at 1am to 4am, then back to office at 1pm tomo cos she on half day leave.

1am to 4am...... hmm.......

Was originaly supposed to go for dinner, brother booked a table of 10. But because i cannot confirm, he found someone else to replace me for dinner :(

Plan was to send parents for the dinner, go find my own dinner, shop a bit, catch a movie then report to office at 11 plus. Just when i was approaching the office, boss sms, change of plan, tonight can support from home. Haiz.

Luckily [info]kakashi_hatake_ was available to accompany me...... went for dinner, shopping, drinks before heading home.

I decided that it was time for another oven baked salmon dish. I wanted to challenge myself to make something even healthier. No oil (other than the oil from the salmon), something to finish up the herbs and beautiful sliced mushrooms I had in the fridge.

Surprising it tasted great...and the oil from the Salmon made up for the lack of oil.

Yummy!

I did it! I finally cleared FATAL ATTACK! (That's an old video just for reference.) God I wish I had a camera. I destroyed that sucker.
You can find the file here: http://superwailingbonus.com/sims/r21/FATALATTACK.zip
The thing that helped me out was a different foot position. I turned my feet inwards ever so slightly and it helped out SO MUCH.
Then I went over to SN2 and slaughtered Max300, Unlimited, PSMO, all that jazz. I got something sick on Unlimited, like 37 non-perfects. If only Big Surf were open I'd go fuck up their MAX2.

woo woo grades fixed lol
I got an official-looking email from ASU saying there had been a grade change posted to my SWA&D class. I looked and AHOY I now an A-natural instead of an A-minus. It's the OTHER class I should have had the A-minus in, but shhh. So my semester GPA is 4.111, how screwed up is that. That brings me back up to a nice round FOUR for cumulative. I BEAT THE GAME LOL

I found some beans
Thanks to [info]kawaiikingyo's advice, I went to Whole Foods and sure 'nuff, they had soy beans. Pretty cheap, too. They had packaged Miso, but I don't think that's what I wanted... especially not at eight to ten bucks a package. We'll seeeeeee

fur
I was trying to trace out the body pattern for a fursuit commission and realized I wouldn't have enough material to do it. Damnz. Even if I frankensteined it up and put together pieces from all over to form strips long enough for jumpsuit parts, it wouldn't be enough. Oh well, I needed more for the next commission anyway.

explorer.exe just took a crap on me, time to reboot...

Ice May. 15th, 2008 @ 08:59 am

I like my pantry cos got big fridge there.

I will put my night snack in the fridge and pop by when i was hungry. I will also bring along my vacuum mug so that i can get some iced coffee from the vending machine, transfer it into my mug and bring it back to the project office where i was seated.

BUT

The iced coffee from the vending machine got very little ice. So usually the coffee not cold enough.

I knew the Coke got more ice, so in an attempt to get more ice, i pressed the Coke button and it dispensed a cup of coke for me....... with some ice floating on the top.

To prevent it from melting all away, i hurry up gulp down the Coke *BURP* then i quickly pour the ice into my vacuum mug *BURP* but freak man, so little ice and its hardly gonna make my coffee cold *BURP* i wonder is there a better way to do this *BURP*

*looks at fridge*

*opens freezer compartment, removed ice tray, put ice in vacuum mug*

Freaks

I think I will write things too.

First, I went on an adventure to fill out paperwork. On the way, it drizzled. It's like somebody told the sky a really funny joke and it peed its pants a little. But instead of pee, it wound up as dots on my windshield. That's the first precipitation in months. Sweet. But little drips aren't going to wash my car!

Got some groceries today. A lot, actually. But it was a good run. "Loyalty Cards" are such a gimmick, but it's always fun to wow people by "saving" more than you spend. My total was over 200 before scanning my gimmick card, at which point the system locked up for a couple seconds, and awarded all my "savings". And then my stack of coupons knocked off another thirty bucks, pushing it below a hundred. The guy next in line remarked, "Man, you gotta teach me how to do that!" In retrospect, I really should have given him my printouts with the TGG website address.

It was especially high this time because I want to cook at home more. I really don't like eating out anymore, and it's not just because I'm stingy. I just don't like the taste of a lot of food out there anymore. You go to Denny's, IHOP, Village Inn, long enough, and it just all tastes the same- greasy, salty, stale...

One thing I like making is Japanese steakhouse salad dressing. The only problem is, the recipe calls for mashed soybeans, but grocery stores never carry soy beans. I end up using garbanzo beans and I think that's why it always tastes funny. Maybe if I went to the local hippie store (Whole Foods) I could find some? Canned soybeans. Do you has?

Still waiting for my grades. Got one back, but the other two are... hm. BB says I still have 4 assignments to be graded in one of my courses!

Finally, I think tomorrow I'll have an entire day without distractions. I'll probably end up going out to do something at some point anyway, hah. But first, suits suits suits argh.

I think i haven't gotten used to sleeping in the day yet, that's why the body lacks sleep. Worse news is that they dunno when this will end. Transitioning from this phase to next phase on friday or saturday, team lead doesn't know if the manager of next phase wants 24 hour support as well :(

A rather troubling Tuesday May. 14th, 2008 @ 12:39 am
[info]deathstix
I'm..quite disturbed, but don't worry, it's all right.

The time had come for Bernard's composition recital, which I'm sure went down well with the examining jury. He had three pieces to showcase and "And Suddenly I Have Nothing But To Accept" was the last. However I got rather..disturbed by what he had to say about the piece prior to conducting it.
It was actually a response to Sonny's death sometime ago.

That information fitted all the pieces in that puzzle. I already felt something powerful about the work, not knowing what it was all about, during all the rehearsals. I hope he has found a resolution in this work's creation.

This is just one case where music that comes from the heart will reach out to anyone who listens to it, regardless of whatever musical language the music manifests itself in.

--------------------------------------

Then I went to watch
.
[info]miak let me in to the cocktail reception area..hee...
but I didn't really feel like having anything to eat, except a brownie.
Next time you serve brownies, do NOT serve them in cubes and stick ice-cream sticks in them.
Mine ended up on the floor. :(

After watching it...
I'm quite disturbed by the fact that society and societal attitudes... have not really changed much from 19th century England till today. There are far too many parallels that still exist.
If you know/like Oscar Wilde, you'll appreciate the finer points of detail that this movie incorporates as pointed out by Alex after the show...nahh...I won't spoil it here for you.

Now lemme get back to the world...
